Beth Hedley Artist

Beth Hedley is an accomplished, award winning fine art digital artist and photographer. Born and raised in Iowa, Beth lived for a few years in Nebraska and Tennessee before returning home to Iowa where she currently resides with her husband and two children. An artist at heart from birth, Beth focused primarily on theater and music in college, though she did minor in visual arts. She also enjoyed photography, watercolor painting, pottery and sculpture. After college and music school, she went on to spend many years as a singer/songwriter. Finding herself back in small town Iowa, Beth reconected with her love of visual art and studied everything she could get her hands on relating to photography and editing in Photoshop.

Still an up and coming artist, she enjoys working with models as well as landscape photography, but editing is her favorite part.  She views a photograph like a canvas on which she paints in Photoshop.  In the short time Beth has focused on her photography, her work has been published in two magazine spreads. appeared on a magazine cover and has won an award for her compositing.

The Middle of Nowhere Studio

I was born in Germany as a proud Army Brat. We moved around a lot back then and to fill the time I learned to draw, emulating what I saw in my favorite comic books. My taste always gravitated to darker images; shadows and highlights really drew my attention. After a long break from art I returned to airbrushing, as well as illustrating a children’s book. I find myself taking the most enjoyment painting portraits, but have painted several different subjects and mediums including motorcycles and various automotive panels.

I have painted a Harley Davidson in a Tie Dyed theme, to recently, a loving tribute to a customer’s wife. The airbrush gives me the freedom of being able to paint on nearly any surface.

Middle Of Nowhere Studio has had the pleasure of being part of several car

and motorcycle shows as well as comic conventions. As an artist, I’m

always excited to see what’s next!

It hasn’t been long that I felt entitled to call myself an “artist” without feeling pretentious.  I have no formal training or education – just a great love all my life for all art.  I retired September 2015 from full time work in human resources.  One of the first things I did (after recovering from a very stressful job) was to buy a canvas and some paint.  The very first painting I did was me (younger and slimmer) sitting on a beach in Hawaii.  At some point, I overcame my shyness of others seeing the first few paintings I did, and received praise from trusted family and friends.

 Dreamstate Photography

When I was in first grade, Miss Mitank asked me a question that would define every-part-of-my-being and reveal the adventure I was destined to go on.

“David, is this real or make-believe?”

I knew the answer so clearly and I proudly stated it: “This is REAL Miss Mitank!  To me it’s absolutely real!”

I’ve packed a lunch and went walking into the woods, because I knew that if I looked hard enough, I would find the rabbit hole that lead to Wonderland.  I’ve waged countless battles with Skeletor, defeating the trickster with a stick from the yard that was my Power Sword.  I’ve leapt from the fence with a red bath towel pinned to my shirt, countless times, because I knew that if I believed hard enough, I would fly like Superman.  I’ve closed my eyes and listened to an entire soundtrack from a Star Wars or Star Trek film and relived the whole movie, line for line, lightsaber to phaser, in my imagination.  I’ve performed on stage and told some of the best stories ever written to captive audiences.

But the day that I picked up a camera was the day that I knew I could show the world what I see in my mind.  I could then once again proudly state; “This is real – to me it’s absolutely real!”

You are unique.  Let’s show the world our imagination, together.
